Only consider training programmes which move onto commercially approved qualifications. There are way too many small colleges pushing 'in-house' certificates which will prove unusable when it comes to finding a job. From an employer's perspective, only the major heavyweights like Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco or CompTIA (as an example) will get you short-listed. Anything less won't make the grade.

The key factor to stress is the fact that training program alone won't make you a web designer; it will merely teach you the techniques. During your training & study, you have got to apply yourself to constructing & creating as many websites as possible, to prepare & build your own portfolio. Build web sites about your special interest, your family, a favourite music group or even TV programme. You might even create interactive web sites and get 'traffic' on them. Anything you do will enhance your CV, & prove much more to an employer than just an Adobe certificate.

Commercial web-designers may also improve their offering if they branch-out into fields such as project-management and e-commerce for instance. 'SEO' (Search Engine Optimisation) expertise is also extremely valuable for web-experts - this concerns the art of getting web-sites to or near to the top of the Search Engines for frequently used search terms. And even though they technically originate from a network administration background, we mustn't forget the incredibly valuable work of the web server installers & administrators, who keep the whole thing working in the background.
